Sad Day

Thursday I was told that my good friend of the last 12+ years has a terminal illness and only has maybe a few months left on this earth. He is my friend and buddy, we've been through a lot together, with him almost being killed a few years ago, but we got him back in shape, but this time there is no coming back. This friend is Eric my cat, he is dying of renal failure. Even with treatment he only has a matter of may be a couple of months left. Treatment is very invasive and ruff not to mention costly, so I must make a decision as to weither he lives with treatment only to die anyway or end his life now when he is at least comfortable and mostly pain free, for now. I can't afford to wait to long in my decision because I can't afford a lenghty hospital stay, he's at the vet getting an IV to clear out the toxins (and rehydrate) that have built up over the last week and a half. I have only until Sat to make my decision, currently it's for ending things now, but we'll see what happens. When I go to see him Sat I'll take it from there depending on how he responses to the IV. Keep fingers crossed.


Well it's Sat and the vet called to tell me Eric is doing great as far as eating and going to the bathroom (#2) but that his one kidney blew up again and that this was going to happen all the time so it's not making my decision any easier. I will be bringing him home for the weekend :: so we'll take it from there.


It has been a tough week and a very sad day, I had to put him down today, his quality of life had diminished so much that putting him to sleep was the humaine thing to do. He will always be remembered.
